MST Program

Trauma Informed Addiction & Mental Health Treatment for the Military & Veterans

First Dawn Recovery’s approach to care recognizes and responds to the impact of traumatic experiences on the physical, emotional, and psychological well-being of individuals who have served in the military.

Many service members & Veterans have experienced a range of potentially traumatic events, such as combat, witnessing violence, childhood trauma or experiencing sexual assault, which can have lasting effects on their mental health. Limiting admissions to 10 in a homelike environment, the program is designed to create a safe and supportive environment for military personnel & Veterans, promoting their healing and recovery.

Military Sexual Trauma Program Track

The MST (Military Sexual Trauma) Program Track is a specialized component of our dual diagnosis treatment program, dedicated to providing comprehensive care to military personnel & Veterans who have experienced military sexual trauma. This track is designed to address the unique challenges faced by men and women dealing with both MST and co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders.

Program Overview:

Real World Dynamics

First Dawn’s MST Program is offered in a coed environment. A coed program can be effective for several reasons:

Reflects Real-World Dynamics

A coed MST program can simulate real-world interactions and help participants learn to navigate and cope with mixed-gender environments more effectively.

Enhanced Healing Environment

For some participants, engaging with the opposite gender in a controlled, therapeutic environment can help in the healing process, as it allows them to confront and process their trauma in a safe space.

Diverse Perspectives

Coed groups bring diverse perspectives and experiences, which can enrich discussions and provide broader insights into coping mechanisms, recovery strategies, and understanding trauma.

Support and Empathy

Participants can gain support and empathy from members of the opposite gender, which can be therapeutic. Understanding that trauma affects individuals similarly, regardless of gender, can foster a supportive community.

Reduces Gender Stereotypes

Coed programs can help break down gender stereotypes and biases, fostering a more inclusive and understanding environment. This can be particularly empowering for participants who may have experienced gender-based trauma.

Holistic Approach

A coed program can offer a more holistic approach to treatment, addressing not only the trauma but also helping individuals build healthier relationships and interactions with all genders.
